In general, beware of the reliability of HP notebooks. They work great, but half (3 of 6) those I’ve purchased over the past four years required motherboard replacements (usually between 18 mos and 36 mos, so buying the extended warranty is not a bad idea). This particular model though has very “buggy” recovery software. You simply cannot reinstall your operating system and drivers to a new (bigger) harddrive using the recovery disks. You also cannot expect HP tech support to be of any help. My suggestion is you wait six months or so for the feedback loop to work within HP to address these issues. Otherwise, as your picture and music files grow, you’ll be left with a very expensive door stop or bookend.

I purchased this not long ago and had to wait for HP to create the software driver for my 1 yr. old HP laserjet 1022 printer so it will run on Win7. They finally created a driver but it does not work. I’ve wasted countless aggravating hours and have gone to many message boards only to discover printer problems are a common meme. I still cannot print anything and cannot afford to buy another printer. Can you believe HP cannot properly support its own printers?!?? I will not buy HP brand products again!

I am taking the time to write this review because I’ve owned several HP pc’s and laptops and now find myself quite perturbed by there customer service; or lack there-of. I have two hp laptops, dv2xxx and dv6xxx, on which the screens had gone out. I had problems with one for awhile before the problem with second started to arise which is that the screen just went out. Because I had a second laptop I guess I didn’t spend enough time trying to solve the problem though I did put in a bit of effort, e. g. checking @ HP. com for updates, reinstalling drivers and such but to no avail. Once I began having this problem with the second laptop I did further investigation. It turns out that HP laptops are synonymous with screen trouble and while they were fully aware of the problem, they only offered to fix certain ones. My second laptop was not on the list to be fixed for free and the first one was a few months out of warranty so I received no support. In my research I learned that 1,000’s of hp laptops had this problem and this is precisely the reason for the recall, though I’m not sure why some of the laptops were left off the list. Though the product was recalled, I didn’t see this recall information when I visited their website nor did I ever receive any e-mail from them about the recall even though I have received 100’s of emails from them trying to sell me all kinds of other products of theirs. My laptops were both registered with HP as well as my camera, printer, ext. DVD/rwd and laptop docking station but yet they absolutely refused to help which is the common story from thousands of any customers! Laptops don’t have many separate parts that can be replaced if they go bad, it’s all or nothing! So my advice when purchasing a laptop is to go with the one with the best/longest warranty.

I don’t know with other people but I think this laptop is great!!! Except for the battery, it doesn’t really last for 4 or more hours maybe just a little bit more than 2 hours depending on your usage and your running programs and projects and other devices connected to it.
No offense to other reviewers but the issue about the touch pad is not really a big deal to give this product 3 stars. You can always adjust the settings on the pointer preferences to make it more sensitive.
I admit that the looks of this laptops isn’t so good compared to SONY laptops and other brands but it still looks ELEGANT to me. But of course looks shouldn’t be our main concern in buying computers, we should be more concerned on the machine’s performance.
Plus concidering the price, it’s really cheap for it’s specifications and features. I am so glad that HP sells it’s products with affordable prices yet with excellent performance. This is actually my second HP laptop , I was plannig to buy and try another brand of laptop but still HP provides the best specifications and features in an affordable price so I still bought this machine.
