The title claims this modem is Linux compatible, but THAT’S NOT TRUE. This devices identifies itself as a USB ‘vendor-specific’ device, not a ‘communications’ device. Linux kernels (thru 2. 6. 26) don’t recognize this device. It’s an Agere ‘softmodem’ and linux drivers are apparently not available.

I bought a new imac computer and I did not realize the apple does not come with a dialup modem as part of the computer. The only problem I have had so far is when I disconnected the modem from the USB port and when I plugged it back in, after awhile I kept getting a modem error and I could not connect to the internet. After reading the troubleshooting section of the manual that came with the modem, it mentions you may need to plug it back into the same port that was used when installing the software. I switched back to the port that it was initially plugged into and it has worked fine ever since.
