I bought this for portable wi-fi and it does work for this. But, I’m a novice in wi-fi so I am disappointed in its limited range. On my house wireless network it is ok in the room below, but out of range in the front of the house maybe 40 feet away. I bought an extender antenna for it which was very difficult to install for lack of “dummy” instructions (assumed I knew a whole lot more than I did). It would allow the netbook to pick up my wireless signal in the front of the house, but speed is so slow that I can’t use it for video.
I was also surprised at getting system error messages early on when I hadn’t done anything to disrupt the default system. And ASUS tech support must come from Taiwan- stilted language and poor spelling/grammar that makes it hard to understand their FAQs and such. There is a very active ASUS Forum on the Internet, but I’m not sure you can trust the advice there in all cases.
Last, maybe I expected too much, but booting is very slow. I may try the extra gig of memory to see what effect that has.
On the plus side- Amazon ordering was a snap and I got it very quickly even with the free delivery. And the price was better than anything else I could find.

This model was ordered for me as a gift and I was extremely excited to receive. Unfortunately since receiving I have had nothing but problems. On powering up the screen was just black. Eventually sent back to manufacturer and they supposedly fixed the darn thing. I just got back the box (minus the sleeve it initially came with) and it worked for approximately 1. 5 days. The screen has just fizzled again. I plan to send this back immediately and request a full refund. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

Not bad at all, specially with the price 284. 99, fast shipping. the 1005ha is slick lighter than the 1000.
Product power port is weak compare to the eee pc 1000ha/he, it often lose contact from the power adapter tip to power port!

I have this Asus laptop in white with 8. 5 hrs of battery life. This is my first laptop and I love its size because I couldn’t imagine toting around anything bigger.
It’s sleek and stylish and I carry it in a protective padded case in a tote bag. I use it to play my video games, surf the internet or check email at my local Starbucks or wherever free wifi is available. Oh and if you don’t have wifi, you will need to have high speed internet. I don’t live in an area that has wifi yet. So I usually take my Asus when I need a cup of coffee or tea. Using the flat keyboard took a little getting used to but no big deal.
I have also experienced my Asus getting a little hot but I did see in the manual that you shouldn’t have it on your lap when using it.
It’s probably a good idea to have a layer of protection on any surface you’re using in on at home. I use a bamboo placemat or the protective sleeve/case I purchased when I bought the computer.
Though not a desktop, it’s very convenient to be able to use it anywhere in the house or on the road. I recommend upgrading the memory to 2GB, also getting a few flash drives. That way, you don’t max out the memory so quickly.
It’s wonderful that Asus has made quality laptops that are affordable.
